"To speak, or act, or think originally is to erase the boundary of the self.
It is to leave behind the territorial personality."
- James P Carse
Imagination + Permission = Confidence to Change
Change is on the other side of fear. One of the biggest fears people have - some say even worse than dying - is public speaking.
How often have you permitted yourself, or felt permission to share truthfully in front of others?
We witness it again and again at Voices Unleashed. People who one day decide to overcome that fear and share a vulnerable story or song. Then something 'breaks open' almost instantly after, and they keep leaning in. Week in, week out.
Compounding their authenticity, compounding their creativity, stacking their confidence.
Until one day, they find themselves as signed artists or authors or inspiring speakers. It's not the goal of Voices Unleashed to create artists and orators left and right.
But our goal is creating a space for permission and for imagination. To help people instill the confidence to fully stand for who they aim to be in the world and to keep erasing the boundaries we put on ourselves.
Last week Stephen James Allen invited me on Isumataq for a conversation around the power of creativity. The great, the edgy, and what it takes to build safe spaces for permission - like with Voices Unleashed.
Over the coming days I’ll highlight a few moments here intended to give you value on your creative journey. Big thank you to Stephen for the open exploration.
