Thalassa

Where I meet you, is where I meet myself
4

Swift like the first light. Impenetrable dark of night.
Yet you draw me near. To the deep I belong.

Let me remember how it was to breathe with you.

Now ripples of you are all that’s left to chase.
Pace and Peace. Can we please like once before…

In the depths of confusion, the only life is in acceptance.

To remember. To find what was lost.
That you’re born from water.
And destined to return to her.

A bond remade through the endless current of time.

And the surface mirrors the message:
Where I meet you, is where I meet myself.
In the joy of being here.

We try. We learn. We live. We fall. We forget. We suffer. We remember.

We rise.
Once more.

The ‘Thalassa’ project:
Roman Caillez is a visionary cinematographer and co-founder of Bali’s leading production agency: BaliProd. We met through my partner, Eva. They shared a house back in 2023 and their kids played on the very couch where we sat down for his idea: A surf-style video with a poetic touch. I let the lines come to me, named it Thalassa, and then a talented crew took over and brought the whole to life in Uluwatu, Bali.

Commentary:
The poem speaks about a longing for wholeness, which includes accepting loss and renewal. I chose water—both nurturing and formidable—as a metaphor for the unconscious forces that shape us. By “meeting ourselves” in them, we invite self-discovery and transformation.
