First of all, congratulations! It is magical. We have two, the oldest now 10. It goes fast, enjoy every minute. And start now, indeed. Whisper to that tiny human growing in that womb. Sing to it. Start creating that bond already. And...
You will remember those words, as they are as accurate as can be (but you will not always like what you see in that mirror, I guess that's one part of the raising done by the small one):
"As you grow you raise us too,
The mirror that reflects all that’s pure and true."
That means a lot @jefferdman. I've had wonderful teachers and role models to thank and I have no doubt mistakes will be made and miscommunications on love could happen but it feels as if I've grown an additional heart with an infinite flame for this little one.
Well said. As a father to a 10yo son, I contemplate fatherhood a lot... its triumphs and calamities. I've been meaning to work this sentiment into a poem at some point, but I'll toss it out here because it seems relevant. "My son gives me a newfound appreciation for how much patience my father had for me, and how much I just never understood that until I was this deep into parenthood. A parent is something one becomes not through a biological process, but through the way they are able to relate to, and be present to, their offspring's specific and unique needs."

ENJOY.
Wise words Arjan, truly appreciate it. Wow 10 years, magical stuff!
Haha will take your advice to heart and whisper and sing.
Congratulations!! Fatherhood is such a trip.
If even a drop of the beauty you rendered in your poem trickles over to your parenting skills, your new human will be in good hands.

You're going to do just fine. :D
Congrats!
Thank you so much David!
